Today's guitar lesson for beginners is about the most common strum pattern no one talks about. Hey guys, Brad Litton from SimpleGuitar.com here with another beginner guitar lesson for you on a strum pattern I hear in songs all the time, but I don't hear people talking about how to break down & play this strum pattern. So today I'm going to do just that. I'll show you how to actually play and use this strum pattern & a couple of ways you can spice it up to sound even better. Now, you can use this on acoustic guitar or electric guitar, it doesn't matter which. But this strum pattern uses a dotted quarter note & is used in country, rock, blues...pretty much everything, & it will make you sound like a rock star.

Normally this acoustic guitar song is in the key of E by placing a capo on the 2nd fret & basing it around a D shape chord. But what I'm going to show you is how to play this song in E with no capo needed at all. Honestly I think this version is actually a bit easier to play than the original version, too. So in this video I'll be going over all 4 chords you need to know, the rhythm for all the strumming, & break down the verse & chorus sections of the song.
