The Worst Advice Ever For Guitar Players

mindset & motivation Feb 25, 2021

The worst advice ever for guitar players is to not learn other guitar players songs, solos, or licks! Hey rock stars, Brad Litton from SimpleGuitar.com here with another free guitar lesson for beginners here for you. Believe it or not, this is actual advice that I either hear people giving out, or bragging about their own approach to learning how to play guitar. But I think this is terrible advice and no guitar teacher or guitar player should ever encourage people to NOT learn how to play guitar solos, songs, or licks by other people. If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend you go check out Victor Wooten's TED Talk 'Music as a Language'. In it, he talks about his experience of learning music when he was young & how learning music is more like learning a language than it is learning math or science. When you approach learning guitar this way, then learning solos & songs by your favorite guitar players is more like learning their vocabulary that they use to speak. Could you imagine trying to write a book without reading any books? Seems crazy, right? But that's the same approach some people are trying to take to learning guitar. So go out there & learn the language of music by learning more guitar solos, songs, & licks from your favorite guitar players either on electric guitar or acoustic guitar. And remember, if you hear anyone bragging about how they don't learn any songs or solos & only play their own music...RUN AWAY!!!
